Welcome to All Women of Bethel
All women become members of the Women of Bethel and of the larger group, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (Women of the ELCA), when they join Bethel.
The women of Bethel join together in Bible study, circles, general programming, service projects, fellowship, conventions, work groups, prayers and worship. You are welcome to join any group. Just come--whether you’re retired or work full-time or part-time, stay at home, or just want to spend time with a group of special women. All women are welcome and encouraged to attend any or all of these events.
All women of Bethel will find their names listed in one of the four circles or on the New Members page (see index). The circles are the groups that meet monthly to study the Bible, work on mission projects and serve at funerals or other functions that are provided by Bethel Lutheran Church. If you do not find your name listed under a circle or as a new member, please contact the church office (386-8821).
Purpose Statement
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit;
We commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
Goals
To help all women of Bethel grow in and through prayer and Bible study and thus set meaningful priorities.
To reach out to our new members and our inactive members to help them to know Bethel as their home.
To provide ideals, service and programs to activate the interest of all Bethel women.

ALL-CIRCLE GATHERING SEPTEMBER 16
ALL WOMEN WELCOME
The Women of Bethel All-Circle Fellowship gathering is Thursday September 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Highlands. Come for goodies and the introduction to this year’s Lutheran Women Today Bible Study, "The People of God: Unity in the Midst of Diversity." This study is based on the ELCA Book of Faith initiative, and in the first session, the authors will discuss how reading the Bible is a foundation. The study "brings us into intentional conversation around issues that divide us from each other." Alicia Hilding, a Luther Seminary student (and Juli Hilding’s daughter-in-law!) will lead the study. Alicia is completing her contextual education here at Bethel.
If you do not have a copy of Lutheran Women Today, there is a copy in the Bethel library, or visit www.augsburgfortress.org to subscribe. The first session is also posted at www.lutheranwomentoday.org. If you have not attended a circle, please come, because strangers are just friends you've yet to meet! Questions: contact Jackie Hugdahl at tjhugdahl@gmail.com or through the church office.

INSPIRING PRESENTATION AT MISSION TEA
Dr. Jerene Mortenson

WELCA THANKS YOU
A HUGE THANK YOU to all who participated in and contributed to WELCA’S Annual Mission Tea. Attendees were enlightened and inspired to hear special guest speaker, Dr. Jerene Mortenson, share the stories of women and children who have attended schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan thanks to the efforts of her son, Greg Mortenson and the Central Asia Institute. Dr. Mortenson expressed her appreciation in an email as follows:
"It was certainly a pleasure being with you on Thursday. It was a great source of hope for me to see so many people interested in the children of Pakistan and Afghanistan. And what a lovely tea! Please convey my thanks to all involved in making the occasion so special, and a special thank you to Betty Hansen who started this outreach to others." The free-will offering taken at the Tea totaled $2,869.75. "That is enough to support a whole primary school for over a semester! Your generosity will make a real difference in the lives of many children. Thank you so much."
WELCA is also most appreciative of the abundant donation of items for the AIDS/Hospice and Midwife Kits for Global Health Ministries, as well as the monetary contribution of $125.00. IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO DONATE ITEMS OR MONETARY CONTRIBUTIONS TO GHM. Specific items still needed to complete the kits are: Medium-size heavy-duty household gloves (kitchen type), nail clippers with file, pick combs, jars or tubes of petroleum jelly, and wash cloths. It is possible for WELCA to make 40-50 AIDS/Hospice Kits and 30 Midwife Kits if these specific items are provided.
Donations can be left at either Downtown or Highlands. If you wish to make a monetary donation, please make your check payable to Bethel Lutheran Church-WELCA, with GHM on the memo line. Kits will be assembled once everything is gathered to complete them, then all donations will be taken to GHM. All of these contributions will be “Helping the Hands that Heal" as GHM continues the healing ministry that Jesus chose as a way to proclaim God's gracious love for all people. Thanks be to God for his abundant blessings and to all who love and serve him!

Altar Care
The Altar Care team takes care of the altar paraments (cloths and colored fabric hangings), changing them for the different church seasons, hanging banners, and decorating the churches for Christmas and Easter. The team has made all the banners which hang at Bethel Downtown and plans to make new paraments for both campuses. The group also makes the baptismal banners given to each family and embroiders the baptismal towels.
Team members sign up by the month (or by the week) to prepare communion and fill the candles at Bethel Downtown. Communion is held the first and third Sunday; candles are filled weekly. When a baptism is scheduled, it is set up for the pastors by filling the water pitcher and putting out the special baptismal candle and towel. Team members clean up after the 10:00am service.
Communion at Bethel Highlands is scheduled by Linda Johnson Ladd, Bethel's Volunteer Coordinator. Teams of eight people prepare, distribute and clean up communion weekly.
New Altar Care team members are needed to assist on an interim basis. If you would like to be a part of this ministry, please call or email the church office and a staff member will put you in touch with an Altar Care member.
